Further Information.
I have included more detail of my key ways of working in the hope it empowers you to know exactly what I do, so you can make an informed choice about whether I’m the right counsellor for you.
I am an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor, meaning I pull on helpful ideas from different types of therapy. I am trained to adjust my offering depending on your individual needs. I am a predominantly Person Centred counsellor but I also Include CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and EFT (Emotion focused therapy). I believe sharing education around mental health can be really empowering and you can take what we do together in our sessions into your own life.
-
Person Centered
Person centered is a type of therapy. In simple terms, it means I focus my therapy around you. It doesn’t mean I will sit there quietly, nodding along with everything you say, but instead, I do my best to understand things from your point of view. I believe this can help you to work out what you think and what's best for you. In our lives we often have lots of different opinions which can be conflicting and leave us feeling confused, my person centered approach can help you to turn the volume down on others opinions and turn the volume up on your own.

-
Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)
This is another type of therapy and is the idea that even though feeling emotions can be uncomfortable, they might also be telling us useful information about a situation. For example, If you’re angry, maybe a boundary has been crossed or you want something to change? Our emotions are there for a biological and evolutionary reason- Knowing this, can often help people to look at their feelings with curiosity instead of them being overwhelming and confusing.

-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is another type of therapy. It’s about how our thoughts can affect how we feel and how this then in turn affects our behaviour. It's also about me sharing tools and education around how your brain works and how this might be affecting you. In our sessions I might share this information with you and different tools to help. CBT can be particularly helpful for anxiety and depression. Some CBT therapists set homework- I’d like to reassure you I don't do this.
